ABOUT

Justin is an American filmmaker working across documentary, narrative, and commercial projects, with a long-standing focus on intercultural stories and work based in Shanghai. He studied Chinese at the University of Tennessee and Sichuan University, and received his MA with distinction from the prestigious Shanghai Theatre Academy in 2022.

His narrative short films have screened internationally, including at the Los Angeles Chinese Film Festival and the Academy Award–qualifying Nashville Film Festival.  His short film The Second Page was awarded Best Film at the Beijing Indie Shorts Fest. Alongside his independent work, Justin has directed commercial projects for a range of global brands and startups.

Fluent in Mandarin, Justin has spent nearly a decade living and working in China, collaborating closely with local crews and communities. Much of his work grows out of questions around identity, family legacy, and what it means to move between cultures.

Justin is currently in post-production on his first feature length documentary, Ryanbabe. The film is rooted in a long-term friendship with its subject and reflects Justin’s interest in character-driven, vérité storytelling that connects personal lives to larger social issues.
